About the Rent Receipt Generator

Every salaried person claiming HRA needs rent receipts — and usually needs the whole year's receipts at proof-submission time, not one. This tool generates up to 12 monthly receipts in a single click, each with the amount in words, the month it covers, a dated signature line, an optional ₹1 revenue-stamp box and even your landlord's UPI payment QR printed on the receipt. How to use it

  1. Enter the tenant's name, landlord's name and the rented property's address.
  2. Enter the monthly rent and pick the first month and the number of months (the tool defaults to the full financial year, April to March).
  3. Choose how the rent is paid — for cash above ₹5,000 the revenue-stamp box is added automatically.
  4. Optionally add the landlord's PAN (your employer needs it if annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000) and UPI ID to print a scan-to-pay QR on each receipt.
  5. Click Download PDF to save all receipts in one file, or Print them — two receipts per page.

Who needs these receipts?

Salaried employees claiming HRA exemption must give their employer rent receipts as proof — typically for the whole financial year, with the landlord's PAN when annual rent crosses ₹1,00,000. Tenants paying in cash above ₹5,000 should get a receipt with a ₹1 revenue stamp affixed and signed across, which is why the tool adds the stamp box automatically for cash payments. Landlords can also use the pack as a ready-made receipt book: the printed UPI QR on each receipt lets the tenant scan and pay the exact rent each month.

Frequently asked questions

Are these rent receipts valid for HRA claims?

Yes. A valid rent receipt needs the tenant and landlord names, the property address, the rent amount and period, the payment date and the landlord's signature. This format includes all of those, plus the landlord's PAN field and a revenue-stamp box for cash payments.

When is the landlord's PAN required?

If your total annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000 (about ₹8,334 a month), your employer must collect the landlord's PAN with your receipts. Below that, PAN is optional.

When is a revenue stamp needed on a rent receipt?

A ₹1 revenue stamp is required when rent is paid in cash and the amount exceeds ₹5,000. The landlord should sign across the stamp. For UPI, bank transfer or cheque payments no stamp is needed — the tool ticks the stamp box automatically only for cash above ₹5,000.

Does the landlord have to sign every receipt?

Yes — a receipt is the landlord's acknowledgement, so each one should carry their signature (across the revenue stamp, if there is one). Print the pack and have all twelve signed in one sitting.

Is my information uploaded anywhere?

No. The receipts, the amount-in-words conversion and the UPI QR codes are all generated inside your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted to ToolSetu or any other server.
